Success Story

Here is a success story for all of you that can't find the right firearm you are looking for. As the hunting season approached I started looking for a youth model muzzle loader for my 10 year old daughter. I knew that there were a few manufactures that had made them but haven't seen any advertised in awhile. Still I decided to look. I couldn't find a thing that would fit a 10 year girls hunting needs. As I was driving home that day from the shop.Trying to think of how I can get her into a muzzle loader that wouldn't be to heavy or to long. The idea struck me. Why don't I take my old Remington 700 muzzle loader and convert it into a youth model for her. Since I am a gunsmith you would have thought that this idea would have come to me first. As soon as I got home I went to my safe and in the very back was my old muzzel loader. I then called Morgan (my daughter) over so I may get some measurements.

I took it to the shop the next day and started on my new project right away. I took 5 1/2 inches of the barrel and a 1 1/2 off the stock. We added a little counter weight in the butt stock for balance. I then fitted it with a custom recoil pad. I had Darren (employee) adjust the trigger down to a crisp 2lbs. Then it was off to the range.

I loaded it with one 50 grain tripple 7 pellete and follwed it with a 250 grain sabot hollow point. I put her at the fifty yard mark and coached her till she was printing about 1 1/2 inches. Now guys she has been shooting since she could hold the little 22 cricket. Once that I saw she was confident in herself shooting a much larger caliber gun. It was off to the woods.

We jumped three deer getting into an old camper I have set up on the back side of my clover field. I thought for sure the hunt was done. Being the beginning of November you just never know. We were in the camper for about 40 minutes and this little buck came walking into the clover field. I pleated at him to make him stop so she may to a good beed on him. He stopped 60 yards out and was looking straight at us. She put the cross hairs right behind his shoulder and slowly pulled the trigger back. The shot was good. It hit right where she had aimed. The buck went about 100 yards and dropped. The smile on her face is something I will never forget.

So if you are need of any kind of custum work or have any question on something you're thinking. Please give us a call.
